Parish Life

Altar Servers

All boys and girls of St. Zachary Parish, grades 4 through 12 are invited to be servers at daily and Sunday masses, weddings, funerals, and other liturgical functions.  Initial training usually occurs in the Spring and Fall.

Altar & Rosary Society

The Altar & Rosary Women's Club is open to all women in the parish.  Its purpose is to develop spirituality, share social time and raise funds to benefit our parish.  Some members volunteer to maintain altar linens and vestments.  Meetings (business, programs, and fellowship) are held at 7:00 p.m., the third Monday of each month (September through June).

Art & Environment

The people of the Art & Environment Ministry are responsible for changing linens for liturgical seasons, designing and making banners for special occasions, decorating the church, and caring for live plants and flowers.

Bereavement ministers assist families in planning funeral masses. They help select funeral mass readings and music, attend the wake, and help coordinate the funeral mass. They are the link to the parish after the death, and follow up as needed to make sure the parish is there for the family. Training is provided. Call the parish office if you are interested.

Commuion  Ministers

Men and women who have been confirmed in the Catholic faith are invited to be Communion Ministers.  The Communion Ministers help with the distribution of the Eucharist at mass.

Members of our parish 50 years of age or older meet twice a month from September to June and enjoy many activities and outings.  Please feel free to attend a Goldenaires meeting.

We are graced to have the hearing impaired community with us at the 10:00am mass each Sunday.  They are led by the interpreter.  Signing is a graceful art form which captures the emotion of the moment in the gestures.

Children's Liturgy

Children's Liturgy of the Word, for first through fifth graders takes place at the 10:00 mass.

Lectors proclaim the scripture readings at all weekend and Holy Day masses.  Once a person has been called, he or she must go through a period of formal training.  If you have the desire and ability to devote time to proclaim God's word, please contact the Parish Office.

 Ministry of Praise

This is a spiritual ministry to which all are welcome to join. This ministry is great especially for those who cannot participate in other areas of parish life due to health, employment or family responsibilities. Members offer prayers for the church, community and world. This is a special way of serving the parish through private prayer. Each member receives a monthly bulletin with prayers and special intentions. There are no meetings or fees.

Ministers of Care

The sick, the elderly, and the handicapped people of our parish who are unable to attend Sunday mass may receive Communion at home from a Minister of Care.  The ministers have completed the requirements of the Office of Divine Worship.  Our Ministers of Care also visit the sick, shut-ins, and elderly in nearby hospitals or nursing homes.  If you would like to be a Minister of Care and participate in the training process, please call and leave your name at the Parish Business Office.

Organist and other Musicians

The organist and other musicians provide the accompaniment, and together with the choir make a joyful sound unto the Lord.  If you are interested and play the organ, piano, or other musical instrument, please contact the Music Director.

Prayer Group & Eucharistic Devotion

We gather every Tuesday at 7:00 pm for Eucharistic Adoration.  The Rosary is prayed at 7:30pm.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Knitted and/or chocheted shawls are given to seriously ill parishioners, or to patients undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, dialysis or other serious medical treatments.  The shawls will be a visible sign of God's loving presence and the parish's prayerful support.  If you would like to make the shawls or donate yarn, needles or cash for this rewarding ministry, please contact Carmen Buckley at 847-636-6342.

As its name implies, the Quilting Club works on quilts and other items. Some of these are donated as prizes for various fund raising activities. The sessions are filled with friendly conversations and this makes for an enjoyable experience. Call the parish office if you are talented or want to learn this art.
